Google Unleashes December 2022 Link Spam Update

Published

on

Introduction:

Google is preparing to unleash a new update in December 2022, according to Google’s Search Quality Team.

There are plans to change the algorithm’s approach to detecting and punishing sites with “Link Spam Update”.

This new move is in response to the many issues in the SEO community surrounding “Blackhat SEO” and Link Building.

The plan will be to start using AI in the process.

But, why is Google focusing on Link Building?

Google’s focus on Link Building is all about the quality of those links.

And, by definition, Link Spam Update creates low-quality, thin or “thin” links that won’t contribute to any sort of legitimate activity.

Here are three reasons why Link Building is such a big part of Google’s plans:

Reason #1 – Link Spam Update

Link Spam Update is a major concern among SEO professionals because the vast majority of it is created by people who are willing to exploit loopholes in how Google works.

When Google’s goal is to maintain a healthy and useful Web, it needs to be able to identify spammy behavior. It’s impossible to filter all Link Spam Update from legitimate websites.

So, instead, Google’s solution is to use AI.

AI is already being used by Google to recognize and remove spam and other types of low-quality content.

Now, it’s being used to identify and filter Link Spam Update.

Reason #2 – The Need for Relevancy

Another reason Google wants to focus on Link Building is because of the growing importance of relevance.

If you look at search results, they’ve become more and more relevant as time goes on.

You can still find a lot of “spammy” results, but those days are quickly disappearing.

So, if you’re an SEO that does Link Building, you want to focus on creating and nurturing content that’s likely to be picked up by Google, rather than creating content that’s simply for the sake of creating it.

Reason #3 – A Growing Number of Negative Reviews

Another reason Google wants to shift to focus on Link Building is because of the growing number of negative reviews people have started leaving on review sites.

If you’ve been reading this blog, you’ve probably noticed that many people seem to be having a hard time with Google’s efforts to make the search engine much more focused and relevant.

I think it’s pretty easy to understand how a site with hundreds of thousands of negative reviews that uses a spammy link strategy could be a problem for Google.

It’s a lot easier to find a site with a handful of positive reviews than one that has a large number of negatives.

All these reasons lead me to believe that Link Building is going to be a major focus for Google for the foreseeable future.

  • In 2020, there were about 500,000 websites.
  • By 2025, there will be 10 million.
  • By 2030, there will be 20 million.
  • So, the more links you can get, the better.
  • To be clear, there’s nothing wrong with Link Building.
  • It’s a great strategy.

However, the old days of spammy link building tactics are gone.

SEO pros need to adapt.

They need to adapt to using great content, developing solid relationships with influencers, and making their websites more user-friendly.
